This workshop centred on the analysis of power and authority in the existing leadership
from the feminist perspective and envisioning Asian feminist leadership. Asian feminist
theology must address and examine leadership, authority and power. This is because
women in Asia experience top-down, hierarchical, patriarchal leadership as negative.
This type of leadership where authority is exercised as power over reinforces power
structures that continue to oppress – exclude, marginalize and silence –
women, and those who have been made “the other” like the disabled persons
and sexual minorities. Thus, it is imperative to examine and critique leadership
and power structures in various sectors of life.
